Knowledge is Power

Gain product knowledge and the power to buy, sell, or spec trucks with confidence. Since 1964 Truck Marketing Institute has been providing technical and product training for the truck industry—those in sales, leasing, engineering and purchasing. Our correspondence courses offer cost effective in-depth training that is self-paced and flexible, with no travel time or expense.

General Courses

Non make specific
Our General Courses are designed for buyers, sellers, upfitters, and suppliers working with multiple makes, or anyone who does not have access to factory product data.

TMI courses focus on specing trucks, not selling skills. That is why our training is used extensively by fleet purchasing, leasing and finance companies, as well as component suppliers, dealer and factory sales and engineering personnel. This is essential knowledge whether you are buying or selling complete vehicles or components.

We offer distinct, standalone courses that focus on light, medium or heavy-duty truck knowledge. This page outlines our heavy-duty General Course III. See the General menu for light and medium courses, or select a make for brand focused training.

COURSE III

Heavy trucks and tractors
Our ten lesson Course III is highly recommended for everyone working with heavy trucks and tractors. Students study and are tested on product information as well as advanced concepts in truck selection, application, and specing of Class 8 vehicles. Graduates complete ten written tests using the 392 page TMI textbook and truck product data. General courses can be completed with factory data sources, or with a Truck Index. Add US$40 for a Diesel Truck Index if you do not have one available.

Students work through the ten tests for this course and mail or fax them to TMI for hand grading. Grades and comments are often returned in one business day. This in-depth course typically requires over 70 hours of study time to complete. The cost per student for the heavy-duty training is US$825 per US or Canadian enrollment.

GET THE eBOOK: The textbook for this course is also available as an “eBook” on a CD in addition to the printed version. This is a $30 option for the course. Using the free Adobe Acrobat reader, students scroll through, read and search the textbook from most any Windows or Macintosh computer.
